Dragon of the Week: week one

week one of challenging myself to read and complete books from my ever-growing tbr.

hello, my lovelies!

As I stated in my last post, I will be posting a weekly dragon of the week. This is a weekly reading challenge for myself to get through the intimidating books on my tbr. If you want to know more, please go to this post!

There are 2 dragons of the week for week one because I am motivated to get these two books off of my tbr. Let’s get into why.

The first dragon of the week is Rules for Being a Girl by Candance Bushnell and Katie Cotugno.

Rules for Being a Girl is about a girl named Marin who’s English teacher Mr. Beckett advances onto her. After gaining the courage to speak up, Marin is put down by the administrators of her school, so to get justice for herself, she finds an unlikely ally in lacrosse player, Gray, who she never thought much of.

I got an ARC of this last month from a Goodreads giveaway. This comes out in about 2 weeks, and I still haven’t read it. This is going to be a tough book for me because it deals with one of my triggers and it is going to be a very dark, hard-hitting contemporary. This is going to be an emotional and tough read.

The second dragon of the week is Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to one of her most beloved books in the community, Six of Crows, which follows an unlikely crew of characters who are tasked with pulling off an impossible heist and breaking into one of the most difficult structures in all of the kingdoms. I believe, it is best to go into this duology with little knowledge. It makes the experience a tad more enjoyable and I will say, it has a different tone to her Grisha trilogy, but both are enjoyable. Six of Crows just expands more into the world.

I read the first half of this book on New Year’s Eve, but I have not finished it. IT HAS BEEN SO MANY MONTHS. It is about time for me to finish reading this book. As much as I don’t want this story to end and leave these characters, I want to move on, finish the Grishaverse novels before the show comes out. I am so excited to see where the rest of the novel goes. I know it’s going to be heartbreaking.

That’s all folks! My first two books for dragon of the week are declared. Next Monday, I will give you guys a brief reflection on these books and how I did along with the books I choose for next week. I hope you guys enjoy this series and have a happy reading week.

see you soon,

~ Aless
