Oh, hey. Let’s chat about how I skipped last week and I am bad at accomplishing these challenges. I should probably stop now while I have the chance.
The whole goal of Dragon of the Week is to read 1-2 books each week, that I have been struggling to get through or get to reading. But I have failed at this little challenge I have set myself. There are many reasons…
- I am a mood reader. Mood reading is such a struggle because I want to read books and follow a tbr, but I cannot seem to get myself into this rhythm. It’s mid-April and I’ve only read one book.
- I’m falling into a physical reading slump. Do you know, how many audiobooks I want to listen to, but can’t because of availability or not being in the mood for it? So many. There are also many books I prefer to read physically and I cannot seem to get through any of them.
- Audiobook struggles. I am struggling hard with audiobooks as of lately. Over the last week, I went from listening to an audiobook for most of my day to watching anime, listening to music, and watching YouTube videos. I haven’t been drawn to listen to anything for almost a week now.
- I know I should be reading, but I don’t want to. I feel a reading slump coming in general and I do not want it. I am reading so many incredible books at the moment, but I don’t want to.
So, I am going to change this little challenge.
Every week, I will continue to pick 1-2 books I want to read, likely 2 books, and try to read them. But instead of forcing myself to read them or get into them, I want to pick a theme for each week. Instead of saying, I want to read Seven Blades In Black and Throne of Glass this week, I will say, this week I want to finish a genre of books, like high fantasy, or I want to do some rereads, or read new releases, et cetera. Picking a theme will allow me to have some books in mind and let me still complete my weekly goal.
This week’s theme: Fantasy
My favorite genre is fantasy and I have so many I am in the middle of, so I want to try to finish 2 this week. I won’t choose either high or low fantasy because I have some current reads that range within the fantasy genre. I have a multitude of choices on my shelves and desk, but I think my main goals will be finishing The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.
Yes, Crooked Kingdom was one of the first dragon books, but I never finished it. I am enjoying both books and it kind of hurts to know, these potential five star books are still sitting in the in between stage of want to read and books I’ve read. Crooked Kingdom is a sequel dealing with the consequences of the heist the Dregs completed in the first book, Six of Crows. The Shadows Between Us is more of a romance focused fantasy, but I do not mind it. I do hope to read at least one more fantasy this week, but we will see where life takes us.
What is a book you are hoping to read this week? Let me know in the comments and on my socials.
see you soon,
